This World
Could Use a Hug

L Y R I C S

The children of the earth would like a future —
of weapons and of battles there’s enough
Everything we ask for isn’t new, sir —
we simply feel: this world could use a hug

If I had my way, I’d share my dream with everyone I meet
And if I had my say, I’d spread the word to every home and every street
Every town and every neighborhood in just a little while
Would soon find out that (why) brotherhood is coming into style

Building on dreams of better days, makin’ all kinds of friends
Throwing a kiss across the waves
With ripples that grow and never end, so much better than any drug
This world could use a hug

Why should we be afraid? Are all the grown-ups running out of talk?
We see the worldthey’ve made, the hearts of men are growing harder than a rock
If all you plan to leave us is much more of the same
It’s our time and it’s our lives, we’ve got to make a change

If I had my way, I’d share my dream with everyone I meet
And if I had my say, I’d spread the word to every home and every street
Every town and every neighborhood in just a little while
Would soon find out that (why) brotherhood is coming into style

Building on dreams of better days, makin’ all kinds of friends
Throwing a kiss across the waves
With ripples that grow and never end, so much better than any drug
This world could use a hug
(Repeat chorus)
